village kids

A collection of local kids, the ones who can be heard screaming hello, hello, HELLO, like their lives depended on it; who play with reckless abandon, chase dogs, roll old tires, climb trees and get fantastically dirty.  They may not have toys or shoes, but they have a freedom unknown to most western kids.

Almost all attend the local primary schools, walking up to 5 km each way, proudly dressed in the national red and white uniform.   Older girls play an important role in raising their younger siblings and doing daily chores. Boys get off lightly in the work department, free to shoot birds with rubber bands, wrestle, play soccer and run about aimlessly.  Not unlike their fathers.
